Who Is Jean Henderson?
Jean is a licensed, registered dietitian with a passion for helping adults feel their best, so they can enjoy their lives. She applies her understanding of how athletes fuel for optimal mental and physical performance to create weight management plans that promote optimal health and body composition. Jean’s approach is highly personalized with compassionate coaching and focused education. She empowers her clients so they can make informed choices that support their long-term weight management and health goals.
Jean’s experience working in a Weight Management Clinic inspired her to open her own business. The position gave her the opportunity to develop a simple, easy to follow approach to weight loss and improved health. With Jean’s approach to weight loss, some clients lost so much weight that they decided to not have bariatric surgery, while others were taken off medications. In addition to making impactful changes to client’s food choices, many special relationships were formed as they knew that she was there to serve them. Many clients were able to make difficult decisions and implement changes that moved them toward their new life. They knew that she truly cared, and was there to support them on their health journey.
Jean’s health issues lead her to becoming a weight management and optimal health dietitian. She hit a point in her life where she had gained weight, was not feeling good and had high cholesterol. After changing her food choices, her health issues cleared up very quickly, she lost a lot of weight, and felt so much better both mentally and physically. She discovered the POWER OF FOOD! Changing her food choices changed her life! Since that point, she keeps taking on new challenges and adventures.
Jean wants her clients to benefit from her many years of finding effective, simple solutions to the many challenges of staying healthy, strong and lean as our bodies change and age. She offers clients a personalized, evidence based approach that produces long term results.

Why We Started Fuel For Life

BEFORE
Me, about 30 pounds overweight, from the stress and exhaustion of long work days sitting in a cubicle, raising children, taking care of a household, and caring for aging parents. To keep my energy up, I snacked on high fat foods, caffeine drinks and sweets all day and night. I ate convenience foods because of my non stop schedule and rarely sat down to eat a meal. Often during the work week, after time with my children in the evening, I'd fall asleep in the living room for hours. I was taking care of everyone else, but not myself. Behind the smile was a chronically exhausted person with multiple health issues. A visit to the doctor was my wake up call. My doctor recommended that I immediately start medication to reduce my cholesterol & other blood work lab values. I argued for 3 months time to change my health status. That was the beginning of my journey to better health.

DURING
My journey to better health occurred in stages and over time. I tackled one new food habit at a time, started exercising every day, and spent hours reading health related information. In 3 months, I lowered my cholesterol to within normal limits. My Dr was not expecting to see that, but had no reason to prescribe any medications. One year later, she was amazed that all of my lab work was still within normal limits! I did it! With food and daily exercise, I lost weight and corrected ALL of my health issues. During this time, I committed to going back to school to become a registered dietitian with my Masters in Sports Nutrition. This turned into a 6 year commitment that included 2 degrees from Florida State University. What an amazing experience! I learned so much about the body and staying healthy as we age. I used every class, research project and internship to learn about the many aspects of mental and physical health for the adult population.

AFTER
Me now! I've kept the weight off for years. In total, I lost about 30 pounds and went down 4 sizes in my clothes. I've learned how to maintain a lean, strong healthy body in many types of situations and environments. I still have long work days, but balance my sitting time with activity and moving throughout the day. I now have a daily food routine that makes the most of my workouts and supports my mental and physical health. I've been through the worst of menopause and came out of it healthy and strong, with a couple of adjustments along the way. It was definitely an all out assault on my body. But with certain daily habits and healthy food choices, I was able to keep moving forward with my long term goals and daily objectives. My entire family has adjusted, in their own way, to a more healthy lifestyle. We now operate from a healthier mindset and body.

The mask is an ACCURATE, quick and comfortable way to determine calorie needs.
We use innovative technology to accurately determine how many calories are needed each day. The mask determines daily calorie needs using a gold-standard method called Indirect Calorimetry. This method is used with competitive athletes and critically ill patients in medical facilities. This assessment is very helpful in meeting weight and health goals because formulas can be incorrect by up to 1,000 calories either way, as they are based on population averages.
